Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions we hear from Eau Claire-area homeowners.
Straight answers on cost, timelines, and how the work actually goes. If your question isn't covered below, give us a call and we'll talk specifics.
Getting Started
How do I get a quote for my project?
The easiest way is to call us at 715-601-6792 or fill out the form on the contact page. We'll schedule a free in-home consultation, walk the space together, talk through what you want, and follow up with a written estimate. From your first call to a written estimate is typically a few days to two weeks depending on project complexity and our consultation schedule.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. The consultation includes the on-site visit, the conversation about scope, and the written estimate. There's no charge, no obligation, and no pressure to commit. We'd rather walk a job and decline to quote than push someone into a project that isn't right.
How long does it take to get a written estimate?
Most estimates land within one to two weeks of the consultation. Simpler projects (a focused bathroom upgrade, a flooring install) come back faster, sometimes within a few days. Complex projects with custom specs or extensive demo coordination can take longer. We confirm an estimated timeline for the quote itself at the end of the consultation so you're not waiting in the dark.
Do you require any deposits or upfront payments?
For most projects, yes. A deposit secures your spot on the schedule and covers initial material orders. Deposit amounts vary by project size and are spelled out in the contract before you commit. We don't ask for payment in full upfront, and remaining payments are tied to project milestones we agree on in advance.
Cost & Budget
How much does a typical bathroom remodel cost?
Bathroom remodels in the Eau Claire area typically range from $8,000 for a focused upgrade (new shower, flooring, vanity, paint) up to $30,000 or more for a full gut-and-rebuild with layout changes. The biggest variables are materials (tile selection alone can swing a budget by several thousand), scope, and what gets discovered behind the walls during demo. Our clear written estimates spell out where the dollars are going.
How much does a typical kitchen remodel cost?
Kitchen remodels in the Eau Claire area typically range from $15,000 for a cabinet-and-countertop refresh to $45,000+ for a substantial remodel with new flooring and layout adjustments. Full kitchens with structural changes, premium materials, or major appliance upgrades run $45,000 and up. We provide written estimates that spell out what's included: cabinets, countertops, labor, and specialty items.
Do you offer financing?
We don't currently offer in-house financing, but we're happy to discuss your project budget and timeline during the consultation. Many of our customers work with their bank or credit union on a home equity line of credit, and we can stage the project in phases if that helps the budget math.
What happens if costs go up mid-project?
Clear written estimates are designed to minimize this. The estimate spells out exactly what's included, what could shift, and what's an open question (galvanized plumbing condition, framing rot, knob-and-tube wiring) that might add scope. When something unexpected comes up mid-project, we document it, walk you through what it means, and adjust the quote with your sign-off before any extra work happens. No surprise charges show up on the final invoice.
Timeline & Scheduling
When can you start my project?
Lead time depends on season and current project load. Spring through fall is busiest, and six to ten weeks out is typical. Winter projects (interior work like bathroom and kitchen remodels) often have shorter lead times. We confirm a realistic start date when the contract is signed and stick to it.
How long will the project take?
Most bathroom remodels run two to five weeks. Most kitchen remodels run three to six weeks. Whole-home or addition projects run several months. Smaller scopes (a shower swap, a flooring install) wrap in days to a couple of weeks. We give you a realistic timeline before construction starts and update you weekly during the project.
Will my home be livable during construction?
Usually yes for kitchen remodels (we help set up a temporary kitchen with microwave, hot plate, and a relocated fridge). For bathroom remodels, the bathroom itself is typically unusable for the duration, so confirm you have access to another bathroom before scheduling. Whole-home projects are case-by-case; we talk through living arrangements during the consultation.
What happens if there are delays?
Most common delays are material lead times (custom cabinets, specialty tile, back-ordered windows) or weather (for outdoor phases of a project). We flag any known long lead items in the estimate and order them early. If something unexpected delays the schedule, we communicate immediately and walk through options. Weekly check-ins keep you in the loop on progress and any shifts.
The Work Itself
Who manages my project day-to-day?
You have one point of contact for the whole project, typically the project lead who walked the job during the consultation. They handle scheduling, coordinate trades, answer questions, and run the final walkthrough. You're not getting passed between sales, scheduling, and the field. It is the same person from quote to completion.
What if something unexpected comes up during demo?
Older Eau Claire-area homes often surface surprises during demo: knob-and-tube wiring, galvanized plumbing, water damage, framing that wasn't built to current standards. When something comes up, we stop, document it, walk you through what we found and what it means, and quote the additional work before continuing. Nothing gets added without your sign-off.
How do you handle quality control?
Quality control is built into the daily workflow. We check our own work before moving to the next stage rather than waiting until punch-list time. The final walkthrough at project completion is your chance to flag anything that doesn't meet expectations. We don't sign off on a project until you're satisfied.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We're licensed for residential and commercial work in Wisconsin and carry liability and workers' compensation insurance. We can provide proof of insurance and license documentation on request, typically as part of the contract package.
Service Area
Where do you work?
We serve Eau Claire and seven surrounding communities: Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Lake Hallie, Menomonie, Bloomer, Cadott, and Fall Creek. That covers most of the Chippewa Valley. If you're nearby and unsure whether your address is in our coverage, give us a call. Sometimes we can extend, and sometimes we'll honestly tell you a contractor closer to you is the better fit.
Do you charge extra for travel to outlying areas?
No. Our quotes don't include travel surcharges for any city in our service area. The drive time is factored into our normal scheduling. The 7-minute trip to Altoona and the 30-minute trip to Cadott both get the same treatment in the estimate.
Do you work on rural properties?
Yes, we work on rural properties around Bloomer, Cadott, Fall Creek, and the outskirts of every other city we serve. Rural projects have logistics that in-town work doesn't (material staging, equipment access, well/septic considerations) and we plan for them upfront. Same quality of work, different logistics.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We've done commercial interior remodeling for clients in Eau Claire including the local JCPenney. Whether you're refreshing a retail space, building out an office tenant improvement, or remodeling a restaurant interior, we approach commercial work with the same craft and written-estimate approach as our residential projects.
