Custom Cabinets in Eau Claire, WI

Cabinetry, vanities, and built-ins designed around your space, built to order, and installed level and true. Written estimates and honest advice on where custom is worth it.

Good woodwork is an Eau Claire tradition

Eau Claire earned the nickname Sawdust City in the lumber years, when mills along the Chippewa River cut white pine by the millions of board feet. The mills are gone, but this is still a town that notices good woodwork. Custom cabinetry is where it shows up in a home: cabinets sized to your walls instead of the catalog, drawers built for the things you actually store, and finishes chosen to outlast trends.

We handle custom and semi-custom cabinetry from first measurement to final hardware, for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and the awkward spaces production cabinets never fit. If your project is a straightforward swap or refresh of existing kitchen cabinets, our cabinet installation and refacing page covers that work. This page is for projects where the cabinetry itself is the point.

Custom Kitchen Cabinetry in Eau Claire, WI

Kitchen cabinetry designed from how you cook, not from a stock size chart. That means full-height pantry walls where a soffit used to waste space, an island sized to the room instead of the showroom, drawer banks where base cabinets with doors would make you crawl, and details like soft-close hardware, dovetailed drawer boxes, and finished interiors where glass doors show them. Face-frame or frameless construction, painted or stained, in the wood species and finish that fit your home. Every run installed level and scribed to the wall it actually meets.

Custom Bathroom Vanities in Eau Claire, WI

Bathrooms are hard on cabinetry. Steam, splashes, and temperature swings punish cheap finishes, and standard vanity widths rarely match older bathrooms. A custom vanity gets you the exact width the wall allows, drawers plumbed around the trap instead of a false front, counter height set for the people who use it, and a finish specified for humidity. Double-sink vanities, floating vanities, and furniture-style pieces all follow the same rule: measure the room, then build to it.

Built-Ins & Storage in Eau Claire, WI

Built-ins are where custom work earns its keep, especially in Eau Claire's older neighborhoods. The century homes around Randall Park and the Third Ward are full of alcoves, stair knee walls, and corners that were never square to begin with, and no production cabinet fits them. Made to measure bookcases, window seats with storage, mudroom lockers and bench seats, entertainment walls, and home office cabinetry turn that dead geometry into the best storage in the house, matched to the trim and character the home already has.

How It Works

How a Cabinetry Project Goes

1

Measure & Design

Careful measurement of the space, then design around how you use it. Door styles, wood species, finishes, and hardware chosen against samples, with the budget priced in writing before anything is ordered.

2

Built to Order

Your cabinetry is built to the approved drawings. Lead times typically run 6 to 10 weeks, and we keep you posted so the install date is never a surprise.

3

Install & Finish

Cabinets set level and plumb, scribed to walls that are not, fastened to structure, and finished with hardware, fillers, and trim. Final walkthrough together at completion.

What Custom Cabinetry Costs in Eau Claire

$6,000 to $15,000 · Built-Ins and Single-Room Cabinetry

A custom vanity, a mudroom locker wall, a window seat with bookcases, or an entertainment built-in. Includes design, the cabinetry itself, and installation with matched trim.

$15,000 to $30,000 · Semi-Custom Kitchen or Bath Cabinetry

Modified standard boxes in upgraded finishes and configurations, covering most full kitchens and larger bathrooms. The sweet spot for a fitted look on a workable budget.

$30,000+ · Full Custom Cabinetry Throughout

Cabinetry built to order for the exact space: any dimension, species, and finish, with the layout changes that make it worthwhile. Typically part of a larger kitchen or whole-home remodel.

Biggest drivers: wood species and finish, door style, hardware, drawer count (drawers cost more than doors and are worth it), and how many rooms the project covers. Every quote is put in writing before work begins.

FAQ

Common Questions

What is the difference between custom, semi-custom, and stock cabinets?
Stock cabinets come in fixed sizes in 3 inch increments, off the shelf, in a limited set of finishes. Semi-custom starts from standard cabinet boxes but lets you modify depths, widths, and finishes, which covers most kitchens well. Full custom is built to order for your exact walls, in any configuration, wood species, and finish. Price follows the same ladder. Most of our Eau Claire projects land in semi-custom because it delivers a fitted look at a saner budget, and we will tell you honestly when full custom is worth the jump.
Which cabinet woods hold up best in Wisconsin?
Oak, maple, and hickory are the workhorses in this climate, and all three are grown in Wisconsin forests. The bigger issue than species is our humidity swing: furnace heat drops indoor air below 30 percent humidity in January, and July pushes it back up. Solid wood doors move with that cycle, so the joinery and finish have to allow for it. Painted MDF center panels avoid the seasonal hairline lines at panel edges that painted solid wood can show. We walk through those tradeoffs at the consultation.
How long does custom cabinetry take?
Plan on 6 to 10 weeks of lead time between finalizing the design and cabinets arriving, depending on the maker and the season. Installation itself runs 2 days to a week for most projects. The design and measurement phase before ordering is where patience pays: changes on paper are free, and changes after ordering are not. We give you a written timeline up front and keep you posted on the build.
Can you match my existing trim, doors, or stain?
Usually yes, and it matters more than people expect. A new built-in that ignores the trim profiles and stain tone of the room always looks like an addition. We pull door styles, edge profiles, and finish samples against what your home already has, and for older Eau Claire homes with darker original woodwork we match warmth rather than chasing an exact 100 year old patina.
Do you build cabinetry for rooms other than kitchens?
Yes. Bathroom vanities, laundry room storage, mudroom lockers and bench seats, home office desks and shelving, entertainment walls, window seats, and closet systems. The rooms are different but the work is the same: measure carefully, design around how you use the space, and install it level, plumb, and fastened to structure.
Would cabinet refacing be cheaper than new custom cabinets?
Often, yes. If your existing cabinet boxes are square, solid, and laid out the way you want, refacing with new doors, drawer fronts, and veneer can deliver a new look for roughly half the cost of replacement. We do that work too, and we recommend it when it is the right call. Custom cabinetry earns its price when the layout needs to change, the boxes are worn out, or the space needs something no standard size fits.
